Model Agriculture Centers
To further support farmers, the government plans to establish model agriculture centers across Punjab in collaboration with the private sector. These centers will provide modern agricultural machinery, training, pesticides, seeds, and model plots to farmers. The establishment of these centers will not only improve access to resources but also help farmers identify and avoid fake fertilizers and medicines. In the first phase, a model agriculture center will be set up in each district of the province.
Compilation of Crop Production Data
Recognizing the importance of accurate data for effective planning and decision-making, the Chief Minister directed the agriculture department to compile complete data on the production and demand of each crop. This will enable the government to better understand the agricultural landscape and make informed policy decisions.
Center of Excellence for Research and Development
Another significant decision made during the meeting was the approval of a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence for research and development of cotton, wheat, and rice crops. This center will focus on advancing agricultural practices and developing new technologies to improve crop productivity.
Research and Development Center with China’s Assistance
In collaboration with China, the government plans to establish a research and development center at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. This center, with an estimated cost of 2 billion rupees, will further enhance research capabilities and promote innovation in the agricultural sector. By implementing these initiatives and reforms, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz aims to uplift the agricultural sector in the province, support farmers, and ensure sustainable agricultural practices for the future. The ‘Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card’ and the establishment of model agriculture centers and research facilities will play a crucial role in achieving these goals.
